Fruity Porridge (no-added-sugar)

I made this delicious fruity porridge this morning. Oats are an excellent source of ‘slow release’ energy. This means then they are digested slower than many other cereals, and release sugars more slowly into the bloodstream, meaning you stay fuller for longer. Perfect for reducing the chances of getting hungry mid-morning, thereby reducing your chances of snacking on something calorie-laden. I used apple and blueberries but you can use other fruits e.g. peach, nectarine, plum, pear or blackberries.

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • 40g dry porridge oats
  • 200ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 1 medium apple peeled and cut into small chunks (50g)
  • Handful of blueberries (25g)
  • 1 tablespoon tap water

Method

  • In one saucepan, place the oats and milk, and gentle heat until boiling. Allow to simmer for 3 minutes, stirring regularly
  • Meanwhile, add the chopped apple, whole blueberries and water into another saucepan. Heat until apple is nice and soft and blueberries begin to starting bursting
  • Add cooked porridge into a large cereal bowl and spoon the fruit mixture on top
  • No need to add any sugar – enjoy your healthy breakfast

Nutritional Information

This bowl of porridge contains 285kcal, 5.5g fat and no added sugar.
