Weight loss Courses

Do you and a group of friends want to lose weight together? Support from friends is an important part in losing weight successfully. If you have a group of friends that wish to club together, I can run a weight loss course for you. Courses can be run in your own home (in the Southampton/Winchester/Hampshire area). Sessions can be run during evenings or weekends to work around your other commitments. The courses are usually run as 6 sessions on consecutive weeks, each session typically being around 90 minutes long (shorter or longer courses can be run too). Topics frequently covered include healthy eating, portion sizes, label reading, fats, sugars, alcohol and physical activity. Topics can be tailored to your needs and other topics can be covered as needed. Weight, BMI, waist circumference and blood pressure measurements are included at the start and finish of the course. Each individual is encouraged to make personalised goals at the end of each session to work on during the week. A maximum of 8 people can get together to form a group. From experience however, it works best with a smaller group of around 4-6 people. I would love to chat with you about your requirements, so please feel free to contact me to discuss this.

Healthy eating groups

Similar to the weight loss groups, if you have a group of friends that wish to club together, I can run a healthy eating course for you in a location of your choice. Again, these groups can be tailored to the needs of the group, and can cover specific conditions in more depth as required, e.g. diabetes or heart disease. You also have the option of including computerised dietary analysis for all members at the start and finish of the course to assess how everyone’s diets have improved as a result of the course. As with the weight loss groups, I recommend 4-8 people per group.

Weaning workshops

Do you have a baby and are thinking about starting weaning soon, or are worried about weaning and whether you’re doing the right thing? How about clubbing together with a group of friends for an evening getting the lowdown on the latest weaning advice from an experienced and friendly Dietitian? This practical session (usually 90 minutes) explores baby led weaning vs ‘traditional’ weaning, commercial weaning products, avoidances, the mealtime experience and more. Please contact me for more information.

Workshops, Training and Lecturing

I have a wealth of experience in providing training courses and workshops to a variety of groups and settings. I am a confident and experienced public speaker, and can gain rapport from any group. My aim is to encourage group participation and interaction wherever possible, and to make the workshops as practical as possible. I obtained a teaching qualification in 2009 (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector). I also have experience of teaching Health & Social Care to 16-19 year olds in further education. I am available to provide training to groups or organisations, including schools, catering companies, and the workplace. Previous training sessions have ranged from diabetes training for GP practice staff, to wound healing nutrition for community nursing staff, to healthy packed lunches for the workplace. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

About Me

I graduated from the University of Southampton in 2003, with a first class honours degree in Physiology with Nutrition. I went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics in Cardiff, leading to State Registration as a Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council. I am also a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA). Since qualifying as a Dietitian in 2005, I have worked in various roles within the NHS, before setting up my own private practice in 2013. I have gained experience in a very wide range of dietetics and conditions, including weight management, diabetes, allergy and intolerance, malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies.
In the last three years, I have specialised in the following areas:
  • Infant & toddler nutrition (including infant feeding, weaning, healthy eating and childhood obesity)
  • Health Promotion — working with local organisations to promote healthy eating and optimum nutrition, resource development and training
  • Nutritional support, including building up advice, effective use of nutritional supplementation and artificial feeding (e.g. PEG and nasogastric (NG) feeding)
  • Providing bespoke training courses and workshops
  • Sports nutrition (more recently)
Since qualifying, I have undertaken a number of training courses, including 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)', which is an initial teaching qualification, Paediatric Dietetics Module 1 and a Postgraduate Certificate in Sports Nutrition with Distinction (2015). As well as seeing patients privately, I have a growing portfolio of project work. I am currently a consultant Dietitian for a local Council on a project to improve nutrition and healthy eating for Early Years settings. I write articles for the British Heart Foundation, and also various websites. I am also a consultant Dietitian for Slim & Save, supporting clients on maintaining their weight after completing the diet. For your peace of mind, I have an Enhanced DSB Certificate. I am also a busy mum of three and enjoy the challenge of balancing my work and home life. The children provide lots of opportunities to practice my own advice, such as managing child and infant nutrition, including weaning and healthy eating!
